Dayton First Baptist Church History
First Baptist Church, Dayton was first organized in 1888. The earliest meetings of the church were held in the Gardenhire Opera House on Main Street. In 1891, a building was built on Fox Street. According to the records, even though the membership was small, the church announced itself self-supporting in 1892.
The present site of our church was purchased in 1897 and a small, one-room brick building was erected in 1928. In 1949, an addition was built to increase educational space. Remodeling of the educational facilities and sanctuary was completed in 1970, increasing the auditorium capacity by 100. On September 19th of that same year, our newly-remodeled church building was tragically destroyed by fire.
By March of the following year, ground was broken for our current building. During the many months we were without a building, services were held at the Dayton City School. The first Sunday worship service held in the new building were April 20, 1972, followed by a dedication service on June 15th.
On April 14, 1999, we broke ground for The Faith Center which more than doubled the area for ministries of First Baptist Church. We dedicated The Faith Center on February, 18, 2001, thanking the Lord for His many blessings.
By faith, we are looking forward to see what God has in store for the future of First Baptist Church, Dayton .
