Quote of the Day
1 John 4:16
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Dowelltown Baptist Church History
Church History
Dowelltown Baptist Church was organized on July 29, 1894 by Rev. J.M. Stewart and Rev. John McNabb. The first service was held in the new Baptist church building on May 24, 1896 at 11:00 a.m. The church is an offspring of Salem Baptist Church in Liberty, TN. Dowelltown had long been a Methodist community, when Elder J.M. Stewart a Baptist began preaching at the Eureka Academy and Methodist Church. He awakened an interest in the Baptist doctrine and established the church.
The building had been constructed as one of the best and most modern church buildings to be found anywhere in this area through the efforts of Deacon E.W. Bass, his sons, grandsons, and many other workers.
The church has been kept in good condition through the years. In 1945 the church voted to build a parsonage on the church property. In 1954 it was voted to build two much needed Sunday School rooms. In 1959 new pews and windows along with other rooms were added. In 1990 a fellowship hall was added. Since 2001 the church has made great strides to improve the building by adding: a baptistry, new bathroom, new sound system, new flooring throughout, and new pew cushions.
