Encounter Church History

In late 2011, God moved Andrew and his wife Kathryn from Toronto to Kingston to serve as the Associate Pastor at a church in town. They knew this where God had called them, and they fell in love with the city very quickly.

In early 2014, God was beginning to lay on Andrew’s heart a deep burden for the city and a desire to plant a new church in town. God gave him a vision for a church that was Gospel-centered, committed to making disciples of Jesus, passionate in worship, and intentional in pursuing intimate relationships.

Andrew became excited about planting this kind of church in Kingston.

Kingston needs more healthy churches. Of the estimated 124,000 people in Kingston, 98,000 do not attend church on Sunday morning. That’s 79%!

After much prayer and conversations with Kathryn and other mentors, and after having been approached by a few key people about the possibility of planting a new church, Andrew and this group of people felt the Lord calling them to step out in faith to start a new, life-changing church that would hold fast to the Gospel of Christ and preach the Good News boldly in Kingston.

Encounter Church had its first public worship service on Sunday, January 10th, 2016 at 9am at their church, located at 1201 Division Street Unit 14.
