Who we are

First Baptist Church Wallaceburg is a Bible believing church that strives to serve God in everything it does. Our vision is to act as a bridge, connecting the Body of Christ in Wallaceburg and Walpole Island to reach this community with the “whole message of this life” (Acts 5:20). We seek to fulfill this vision through:

Bible-based teaching and preaching
Relationship building with other churches
Intercessory prayer
Disciplined living
Growth group ministries
Evangelism

Leader Bio:
Hello, my name is Brian Horrobin, and I have had the privilege of being the pastor here at First Baptist Church in Wallaceburg since August 1, 1993. I came to know Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour on Nov. 8, 1982 at the age of 17. I was responding to an invitation to come to a lunch hour meeting in one of the math rooms in my high school. As the teacher shared various passages from the Bible, I sensed the Lord calling me to give my life to Him, and did so right there and then in that math classroom!

I am married to my beautiful wife, Ruth, and we have 5 precious children: Alyssa, Tori, Beth, Nicholas, and Michael. Next to my relationship with Jesus Christ, my family is my top priority. I am so grateful to be a husband and father. I enjoy virtually all sports, particularly soccer, and run regularly to stay fit. I’m also a big Cleveland Indians fan!

If you have any questions about the Bible, Christian living, or how you can have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me. I look forward to hearing from you and being of service to you in any way I can.

First Baptist Church History

http://1stbaptist.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/CHURCH-HISTORY-2016.pdf

This history of First Baptist church, Wallaceburg was gleaned from a number of sources; old documents, the church Centennial booklet (so ably researched by Mr. and Mrs. Don Wilde), annual reports, minutes, church bulletins, etc.

It is by no means a complete history of our church, but rather outlines the major events in our history as a church family. There are some areas where no documents were available and we are sure some readers will recall events which should be included, but which were unknown to the researchers. If you can add important dates and events, or provide interesting information, would you WRITE out the information and pass it along to our Church Secretary. It will be kept with an original copy of our history so that future updates may be corrected or enlarged upon. Your help will be greatly appreciated in this matter.

Research material was provided by Mrs. Velma Frost, Mr. Andy Walters, Mrs. Ethel Andrus, Misses Ayleen and Evalyn Davis. The material was researched and compiled into this material by Mrs. Ethel Andrus, Miss Evalyn Davis and Mrs. Nora Wilde in the 1970's. Proofreading and final typing was done by Mrs. Barbara Myers.

A copy of this history will be sent to the Baptist Archives located at McMaster University in Hamilton.

(Written 1970)

As our church prepared to celebrate its 150th Anniversary, it became apparent that a lapse of historical documentation existed. Following the footsteps so ably set years prior, Denise Shephard, under the direction of Barb Myers, plunged into research. The documentation of this record was started from 1979 to 2015, with small edits being made to previous years’ entries. The material was compiled by Denise Shephard and proofreading was done by Ruth Horrobin. The pages here can only scrape the surface of the contributions that the pastors, leaders, and congregation have made to the success of our church. It is with all praise to Our Father that we can so humbly say “Christ is our Cornerstone.”
