First Church International History

1999

The story of First Church begins not with a building, but with an anointing from God. In October of 1999, Donovan Burkett received the call from God to leave his home of Houston and move to Fort Worth with his wife and daughter to build a church.

In July of 2000 that call was fulfilled at 5059 Hwy 377 South. First Church of Fort Worth held its first service on a Sunday in July in a small white church building in Benbrook, TX with a total of 7 people in attendance. Within a year the church was filled to capacity with 50 members. Lead Pastor Burkett anticipated the need for a larger space to hold the vision that God had given him for First Church and began to pray.

2001

Down the road at 632 Hallvale Dr. in White Settlement, TX, another pastor was praying. His prayer was that God would provide a successor, a man to carry on the vision of Apostolic World Center. These two pastor’s prayers led them to each other and the union of First Church of Fort Worth and Apostolic World Center. This union took place in 2001 and First Church of Fort Worth then moved to White Settlement at 632 Hallvale Dr.

Since the very beginning of First Church, there has been tremendous growth and accomplishment. In 2004 an educational facility was completed that houses our fellowship hall and Sunday school classrooms.

God opened the doors to lay the foundation for our second ‘Preaching Point’ at the federal prison in Fort Worth under the pastoral care of Pastor Thomas Hernandez.

2015

We began to grow in the beginning of 2015 - so much that we needed a bigger Worship Center. We had standing room only services, and we knew it was time to move. Our Pastor began a Capital Campaign about mid-year, with members and guests committing to give monthly to help finance this new venture.

An existing church facility was located at 1212 South Grants Lane in White Settlement, just up the road from Lockheed Martin Aircraft Plant. The sale was approved, and we began an extensive remodel that lasted for several weeks. Our first service in the new facility was on Sunday, December 6th, 2015.

Today

Perhaps the greatest accomplishment of First Church has not been the establishment of all the preaching points, but the proper aligning of ministry that has enabled the church to see the greatest outpouring of the Spirit of God that it has ever known. First Church operates with a 5 fold ministry and each of our preaching points is a direct result of this proper aligning of ministry.

Ephesians 4:11-12 states, "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”. The greatest gift God has ever given the Church is the Ministry.
