Who we are
A Welcoming Note from our Pastor Dr. Rev. Jerry Partney, Jr.
"Know That You Are Welcome here at First United Methodist Church of Gulfport!"
But "they" told me I had to write more and merely repeating that first sentence would not be enough. So, first let me tell you a little about our City, Gulfport, Florida.
Gulfport is a waterfront village/city surrounded by St. Petersburg, Florida. We have national award winning restaurants, beaches and shops. Some are pretty "funky" and adhere to the jesting slogan; "keep Gulfport Weird." Yet were not weird at all (except perhaps, for a few days each year for some homegrown events and festivals like "Gecko Fest" in September). You'll just have to come and see for yourself.
Our Church is in the heart of Gulfport, Florida several blocks from the water. Our congregation is 104 years old. We were the first and largest Church in Gulfport, yet we are small enough to still have that hometown, friendly, family atmosphere. In the winter we welcome a large number of winter residents (those famous snowbirds) many of which have been with us each winter for years. We truly look forward to welcoming them back each season. It is always good to see old friends.
It is also very good to make new friends. If you get a change to visit us, I'm certain you too will make new friends. That will probably begin with meeting my wife, Pat, at the front door. She'll be the one with a warming smile and a welcoming hug. I've told folks for years that the Congregation "puts up" with me, but they truly love her. She is a full partner in our ministry together here at Gulfport.
As for myself, I come into the ministry in "mid life", after careers in University teaching and 15 years in private business. Pat and I have five grown children and four grandchildren who are all very close to us and each other.
Let me close where I began. Come and Visit us - See for yourself and "Know That You Are Welcome Here!"
P.S. We have a "great" Wednesday night buffet dinner followed by a Bible Study at 6:45 pm. I'd like to think people come for the Bible study, but I know the food is the real attraction. It starts at 6:00 pm on Wednesdays; September through June.
Our Church Office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 until noon.

First United Methodist Church of Gulfport History
Our History
Church can happen anywhere. It happens when we create learning opportunities that transform lives. It happens when we create safe environments where children can play and learn. It happens when education makes the path to citizenship a little easier. And when our sacrifices help nourish students’ minds and bodies. That’s putting beliefs into action.
We Welcome you here at First United Methodist Church of Gulfport, Florida.
