Who we are
First United Methodist Church of Sylacauga exists to fulfill its mission for the Kingdom of God.
Matthew 28:19-20 calls us to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." From these two verses comes our mission statement. FUMC Sylacauga exists for the purpose of:
Bringing people to Jesus,
Building up believers, and
Blessing the World.

Greetings! My name is Russell Hestley and I am the new senior pastor of Sylacauga FUMC. My wife Alice and I are very excited about our new home among the good people of Sylacauga. Alice and I are natives of Pell City, and have been married for forty-two years. We have two grown children, Ben and Marie. Ben and his wife Heather live in Atlanta with our two grandchildren, Turner and Sophia. Marie and Greg live in Portland, Oregon with our grand-dog, Bella and grand-cat, Aubie. Alice is the church administrator for Vineville UMC in Macon, Georgia, where she has served for the past six years.
We look forward to learning your stories of faith and ministry and bringing people to Jesus, building up believers, and blessing the world. We have specially designated “Guests” parking spaces – five in the front of our church on Spring Street, and three in the rear parking area - but feel free to park anywhere. All of our doors will be open with greeters to welcome you and direct you to where you want to go.

Dress code:
We often refer to ourselves as “casual traditional.” Some people enjoy dressing up for church. Others prefer jeans and a t-shirt. Either is fine. We just want you to feel comfortable worshipping with us.

The Grounded Coffee Shop opens at 5:30 on wednesdays. Coffee, Lattes, Capuccinos, etc. are only $2 each.
The concession stand is open and There is free food and a featured meal food every week. For instance, If you wanted a whole medium Pizza, it is $4. students study and hangout with friends.
The lesson starts at 6:00pm, and we are done by 7:15. The youth room closes between 7:30 and 8.
