Who we are
De Grote of Sint Jacobs Kerk behoort samen met het Binnenhof tot een van de oudste gebouwen in centrum van Den Haag. De Grote Kerk was een Katholieke Kerk en werd door de reformatie een hervormde kerk. Door secularisatie in de 20e eeuw nam het aantal kerkbezoekers langzaam af en was het gebouw niet meer te onderhouden door de Hervormde Gemeente. In 1981 moest de Hervormde Gemeente om deze reden het gebouw overdragen waardoor sloop ervan overwogen werd. Een aantal betrokken burgers ontfermden zich over het gebouw en vormden de Stichting Grote Kerk. Door de jaren heen werd het gebouw opgeknapt en kreeg het een nieuwe functie in de Hofstad.
Ter invulling van zinvol gebruik van het gebouw vinden er in de Grote Kerk tal van evenementen plaats zoals beurzen, party’s, congressen, vergaderingen, diners, concerten, recepties, tentoonstellingen en huwelijken. De stichting heeft geen winstoogmerk en laat alle inkomsten ten goede komen aan de hoofddoelstelling.
