Heidelberg UCC History
In 1854, a joint Reformed and Lutheran Church was established. The church was dedicated on July 12, 1857 and was named the Heidelberg Church. In 1912, the union of the Reformed and Lutheran congregations was dissolved. The current church building was dedicated on December 14, 1913, and named the Heidelberg Reformed Church. In 1932, it united with the Evangelical Church of the Northwest Synod and was renamed the Heidelberg Evangelical and Reformed Church. In 1959, the church merged with the Congregational Christian Church and was named its current name: Heidelberg United Church of Christ. In 1988, the church celebrated its 75th anniversary. In 2012, the church established its “Free Store” (food and clothing pantry) to serve those in need in the community. On September 22, 2013, the church celebrated its 100th anniversary.
