Who we are
Welcome to HAB!
For over 65 years, Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church (HAB) has been a place of grace and welcome for people from all over the city of Jacksonville as well as the entire First Coast.
A Place of Grace & Acceptance
The people of HAB strive to extend hospitality to each and every person believing that acceptance and welcome are at the heart of the Christian gospel. The people of HAB believe that the life of faith is a journey. We encourage each person to explore faith through engaging Bible study, thoughtful worship, and by providing an open atmosphere in which questions and struggles are treated with respect and love.
The people of HAB serve both the local and global community. The church is not an end in itself but rather provides a means for service to the world. You will find numerous avenues of service as part of the HAB experience. I’m glad to be in a place of acceptance and grace. Enjoy your visit to our website. We would love the opportunity to welcome you to our campus.
Blessings,
Kyle T. Reese, D.Min.

Hendricks Avenue Baptist Jacksonville Service Times
8:45 a.m.: The Gathering
9:45 a.m.: Bible Study
11:00 a.m.: Worship
Worship at HAB is oftentimes as diverse and dynamic as our community. We have multiple opportunities and various styles of worship, and each worship expression is experienced in an atmosphere of freedom and reverence.
Whether we’re singing along with guitar and drums, or pipe organ and choir, the worship at HAB is centered on Jesus Christ, rather than our own needs or preferences.
At HAB, we have two distinct styles of worship each Sunday morning. At 8:45 a.m., we meet together in the sanctuary for a service of worship called “The Gathering.” Incorporating modern media and piano, guitar, bass, and drums, “The Gathering” lifts up the name of Christ through fellowship, confession, and praise… all in a casual but reverent setting.
In the 11:00 a.m. service, the congregation lifts up the name of Christ through old and new hymns of faith, as well as through silence, prayers, and responsive readings, accompanied by pipe organ, piano, handbells, and the sanctuary choir. The service sometimes includes a variety of other instruments, such as those found in an orchestra, as well as from around the world.
Both “The Gathering” and the Eleven O’clock worship are centered on the Word of God, the reality of Christ, and the experience of the Holy Spirit in our midst. Just as there are many styles of worship and spirituality, HAB values everyone’s faith expression in a spirit of fellowship and truth.

Hendricks Avenue Baptist History
Our Church History
Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church (or HAB as it’s known throughout our community) is both a place of great hope and great responsibility in Jacksonville and around the world! We have a humble but honorable history that has been lived out for over 65 years in 25 different countries.
Yesterday. . .
It was in 1945 that a small group of men, women, and children of faith first met to worship God in the Southside/San Marco area of town. Not long after that, they purchased 14 acres of land at 4001 Hendricks Avenue.
Focusing on reverence in worship, ministry to youth and children, and an awareness of the work of God around the world, Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church quickly became known as a significant church in Jacksonville and northeast Florida.
Today. . .
Our former pastor Dr. Jack A. Snell once said, “The three most important things about HAB are people, people, and people.” Whether that means affirming women in ministry or creating a one-of-a-kind athletic league for children…HAB is centered on the reality of God’s grace and presence in an ecumenical and inter-religious global environment. Discovering God in others is a foundational concept at HAB…one that we’re both proud and humbled by.
Tomorrow. . .
The best days of HAB are ahead! We hope that you find this to be true, as you discover that HAB is truly “a place of grace.”
