Holy Cross Catholic Church History

On August 1, 1978, Father William J. Mitchell left Queen of Peace Parish to establish the new Parish of Holy Cross.

Eight acres of land were purchased at Power and Southern Roads. Architects were George Christensen and Associates. Porter Brothers Construction Company Mesa, was the builder of the 825 seat church.

Ground breaking ceremonies were held on September 14, 1980. Construction began on December 15, 1980 and work was completed November 15, 1981.

The first mass was celebrated on November 19, 1981. Dedication ceremonies took place on March 9, 1982 with Bishop Thomas O’Brien officiating.
