Mission Statement

Hyde Park Baptist Church exists to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ by:

Evangelizing lost people everywhere;

Educating all people with the Word of God;

Exalting the Lord in prayer and congregational worship;

Edifying the people of God through fellowship and love; and

Equipping disciples to use their time, talents, and treasure in ministry.

Hyde Park Baptist Church and The Quarries Church are built on two eternal, unchanging truths: Jesus is Lord and the Bible is the Word of God.

Dr. Bowman has served as Senior Pastor since joining the Hyde Park Baptist Church staff in 1997. In this position, he serve as the pastoral leader of all ministries of the church.

Background

I was born in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1956, I accepted Jesus Christ as a teenager in Alaska. I hold a Doctor of Ministry degree in New Testament Interpretation from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, where I also received a Master of Divinity degree. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Religion from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
In 1981, Tina and I married. We have three children: Amanda, who works in advertising in New York; Laura, who works in public relations in Austin; and Joseph, who works in film and graphics in Austin.

Personal Testimony

I received Christ at First Baptist Church of Fairbanks, Alaska as a teenager. At the same time the Jesus Movement broke out among the hippies at my school, and I watched students transformed from the drug culture to the “Jesus Freaks” of the early 1970’s. Even though I had trusted Christ, I wandered away from that commitment during my high school years; but I could not ignore two things. First, the consistent witness of my Christian parents and their obvious happiness in life was a huge witness to me. Second, those born again hippies from the Jesus Movement impressed me because of their bold, evangelistic witness in our school, their commitment to prayer and Bible study, and their joy in the Lord. When I was 19, the Holy Spirit began to convict me of my sin and while sitting in a room full of unsaved friends, unnoticed by anyone, I prayerfully recommitted my life to Christ. In that instant, God transformed my life and I have never looked back, and I have never been the same.

We love kids! Did you know a parent only has 936 weeks between a child's birth and graduation from high school? Crazy, right? That's why it's so important to make every week count! We want to join you on the journey with your child and support you at each phase. Check out our age groups to see the programs we offer to help kids develop a relationship with HIM.

The Pinnacle Student Ministry is the place to be for students in grades 7–12. We offer activities and Bible Study for junior high and high school students, designed with each group in mind.

Students can participate in GoCommunities (small groups) on Wednesday nights in various homes across the area. For junior high students, there’s Epidemic, which meets Wednesday nights at the Hyde Park campus. On Sundays, we get together for Sunday School at 9:45am, giving students an opportunity to study and grow.

We also offer retreats, summer camps, mission trips, fellowships, food and tons of fun throughout the year! We exist to reach students for Jesus Christ and connect them through meaningful relationships. We seek to grow students who honor God with their lives and serve others out of a passion for Him.
