Who we are
Welcome to Lovejoy United Methodist Church. Located on the south side of Newton County, we have been serving our community and the world since 1888. A beautiful inclusive community of faith and love, we welcome all those who step inside. With over one hundred and thirty years of mission work in our local community, our youth and adult mission teams have also served those in need from Mississippi (Choctaw Indian Reservation) to Kentucky (Red Bird Mission Work Camp). In partnership with Action Ministries, we currently provide food on a weekly basis to children with food insecurity at nearby Heard-Mixon Elementary School. In addition, a number of our members also serve in the school’s mentorship programs.
At Lovejoy, we are always seeking new and meaningful ways to support those in need through our prayers and service. Please come and visit us. We would love for you to become a part of our loving, caring community of faith and family.

Lovejoy United Methodist Church History
Our History
Lovejoy United Methodist Church was founded in 1888 and sits near the crossroads of Lackey Rd. and Hwy. 36 in Newton County. Its small, beautiful sanctuary embodies the charm and warmth of a countryside community church. And while Lovejoy has a rich history of having served as a center for faith, growth and worship for many generations of people, our vision and focus is based upon the present and the future. Our purpose as a church and church family can be best described in our Mission Statement: “To Know Christ, To Make Him Known, and To Love as He Loves.”
We know succeeding in this mission will draw us closer to God and each other. And, we believe that is God’s call upon our lives.
