Melbourne Chin Church History
The Melbourne Chin Church was the first established Church among the Chin Churches in Australia. We, the Chin people are one of ethnic groups in Burma (Myanmar). In 1999, about 20 Chins arrived to Melbourne, Australia. As we are Christians, we love gathering together and worship God wherever we are. Therefore, after a few months these firstly arrived Chins met together and worshipped at the residence of Rev.Arohn Kuung at Spotswood. The Church was started with 13 members as Melbourne Chin Christian Fellowship on 4th January 2000.
As the stable place of worship was hard to find, MCCF have to move from place to place in order to worship. In February 4, 2001 MCCF moved to the residence of Rev. Japheth Lian, and in May 20, 2001 to Chadstone Baptist Church, in July 22, 2001 – November 2, 2005 MCCF had its worship service at Auburn Baptist Church. The MCCF moved again from Auburn Baptist Church to Westgate Baptist Community on 9th November, 2005. Since we were growing in numbers by the Grace and Guidance of God, Westgate Baptist Community building can no longer accommodate us therefore we moved to Polish Community at Seddon on 3rd February 2008. We are at present worshipping at St. Leo’s the Great Catholic Church in Altona North since moving there on 5th October, 2008.
We became a member of Baptist Union of Victoria on 7th December 2001. We changed the Fellowship name Melbourne Chin Christian Fellowship to Melbourne Chin Church on 15th July 2006. The Melbourne Chin Church bought the land to build the church at 248, Sinclairs Road, Dean Side, Vic-3555 on 10th December 2010. We have a planning permit but until now we are struggling to get the building permit. We have prayed and hope that it will be happening soon to get building permit for the glory of God. We are aiming for this building project, to spread the love of God not only to those who are living around there and also to all people to get to know Jesus.
By the Grace of God, Melbourne Chin Church has given their blessings to five new Churches who were initially from MCC to start up their own new Churches. They were Lautu-Chin Baptist Church, Victoria Matu Christian Church, Mara Christian Church of Victoria, Australia Zotung Church and Zion United Pentecostal Church.
God has given us great opportunity to work in his mission field back in Burma at the rural areas in Chin State. We currently have eight missionaries in seven villages. We have built 2 church buildings for the newly converts to worship God and 2 boarding houses for children to get better access to education.
