Who we are
Welcome to the Oxford Baptist Church
Oxford Baptist Church was founded in the town of Oxford, New Zealand in 1864.
Oxford is a small rural town, nestled under the foothills and mountains on the east of the Southern Alps, with close proximity to the Waimakariri and Ashley Rivers and Gorges, and is located on the Inland Scenic Route 72.
Located only 55km from Christchurch, the area offers many choices for an outdoor adventure such as; hunting, fishing, kayaking, jet boating, hiking, mountain biking, and 4 wheel driving, and you are less than one and a half hours drive to 5 ski fields.
This picturesque rural location was the ideal setting for our church to develop to serve the wider community. Over the last 30 years, we have followed a trend in the New Zealand Baptist movement, and have become part of the church renewal movement worldwide. Our music has become modern and relevant to today, and we provide many services and ministries to address the pressures and needs of the modern family and society.
Over this time we have grown from a group of 35 persons, to a worshipping community of round 300. You will see on the “History” page, we have had to add to our buildings as the ministries and services of the church grew. It is our conviction that God has built this church community as a place where people can be loved, accepted and find a real relationship with Jesus Christ. It has been our joy and privilege to see many people come to know Jesus as their Lord and God, and to see others find Oxford a place of healing and restoration in their lives and relationships.
