Who we are
Perth Road United Church is a Congregation of the United Church of Canada, located in Perth Road Village, within a beautiful rural countryside of lakes and trees, 25 kilometers north of Kingston, Ontario.
We are a predominately traditional, mature Christian congregation, part of a loving and caring Church community. We strive to keep an open mind to all that we may encounter, believing that our faith will guide us on our journey.
Services are held weekly at 10:00 am each Sunday, and begin with the "Passing of the Peace"; where during four or five minutes of joyful turmoil, all who are able, rise and greet those around them, Welcome visitors, and occasionally (when possible) mix into the center aisle.
Sunday School is scheduled so that the young people experience a planned portion of the Service, as well as receiving their weekly lessons in Sunday School by dedicated teachers. A minimum of two teachers attend every class. Classes are prepared to provide religious education to children from preschool age to young adolescents.
A time of fellowship follows each regular Service, with refreshments provided in turn by volunteers in the congregation. Bible Study and Confirmation classes are conducted when required or desired.
The church and Sunday School Hall entrances are both wheelchair enabled, as is one washroom in each building. One washroom in each building is also fitted with an approved Infant Change Table.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
We are a community of Christians who strive to live out our discipleship, honouring our baptismal covenant, in faithful relationship to the world around us, to one another, and to God.
As followers of Jesus Christ we honour goodness, loving care, the liberation of the enslaved, standing in solidarity with the poor, in a world of diversity and complexity which God has made.
We see ourselves as partners in creation, stewards of Gods gifts, and bearers of hope for the future. We are not alone.
This vision we strive for is given form and shape through frequent worship, music, spiritual growth, study, fellowship, sharing of food, education, community outreach and interest groups, all carried out with a sense of celebration and joy, honouring the newcomer, the seeker and the sojourner.
Nothing is impossible with God!

Perth Road United Church History
Perth Road Village is a rural community, located approximately 23 km north of Kingston, Ontario. During the summer months, the area population increases, as does church attendance, as people move into their cottages to enjoy relaxation and recreation. Perth Road Village has a large community hall that is widely used for events such as dinners, musical events, Tuesday lunches, euchres, meetings and receptions. There is also a small Township hall that is located in Harris Memorial Park, used by weekly euchre competitions and a women's craft group.
The Village has a convenience store, postal outlet and a well respected Volunteer Fire Department. is a seniors residence is located just north of Perth Road Village. Recreational attractions in the area include numerous lakes and the Westport tourism area. The scenery is stunning. Perth Road Public School is located just outside the Village, with an additional Public School and a High School in the neighbouring Village of Sydenham, (approximately 15 minutes to the west). Sydenham has a vast array of services including a bank, grocery store, hardware store, medical and dental facilities, veterinary services, hair salons, restaurants and a library.
Perth Road Village is less than 30 minutes from Kingston where residents have easy access to educational facilities such as St. Lawrence College, Queen's University and Royal Military College
Kingston also offers hospitals, libraries, shopping centres, live theatre, countless restaurants and cinemas, etc. Our residents make up a broad demographic and socioeconomic mix.
Our extended community provides a range of services and many recreational and educational opportunities. Kingston, Ottawa and even Toronto and Montreal are within a three hour drive, makes this area of Ontario unique. The lake country between Kingston and Perth is a jewel being quickly discovered as one of the most desirable, and still affordable recreational areas in Ontario. We enjoy some of the most unblemished natural environment in southern Canada. Frontenac Provincial Park is in our backyard, as well as one of the best hiking trails in eastern Ontario the Cataraqui Trail.
OUR PASTORAL CHARGE
In 1925, Perth Road district became a Circuit of the United Church of Canada. At that time, it was a five-point charge - Wilmur Church (1877), Leland Church (where services were held in the schoolhouse), Lake Opinicon (1877), Maple Leaf (schoolhouse), and Perth Road, where a Sunday School Hall was built that also held Sunday worship.
As membership dwindled, Maple Leaf, Lake Opinicon and Leland were closed. In 1952, Lake Opinicon church was torn down and re-built in Perth Road Village to become the new church for the whole charge. It was dedicated and officially opened on the first Sunday in August 1953. The Sunday School Hall, which had served as the church, was moved to the lot next door when the new road was built through the village. Wilmur church was left as it was, to be used for Annual Cemetery Memorial Services, and other special services. There is presently a committee that does restoration and upkeep work to the Wilmur Church through donations.
In July 1962, Perth Road was amalgamated with Grace United Church at Sydenham to become a two-point charge. Perth Road United has been functioning separately since July 1, 2001.
The Free Methodist Church in Perth Road Village closed in the last few years, leaving Perth Road United as the only church in our community. We feel we have been gifted with a unique ministry and an opportunity to extend our vision to a changing community. We are slowly drawing new people to our church through our outreach events, such as Sunday School programs, Friday night Family movies, and our Community Choir. We also benefit from the broader United Church family of active congregations in the surrounding communities of Westport, Inverary, Sydenham, Glenburnie and Battersea, as we support and encourage each other in many ways.
