Who we are

Our Mission and Core Values

OUR MISSION

We are an active Christian community devoted to Worship that stirs the soul, Education that engages the mind, and Service that sends us into the world.

OUR CORE VALUES

As part of living our vision for ministry, we strive to be:

A spiritual community, guided by scripture and the Holy Spirit

A nurturing community and safe harbor for all God’s children

A learning community, growing together by exploring how to be faithful in our everyday lives

An intergenerational community, learning from and led by God’s children of all ages

Our Beliefs

The Presbyterian Church USA shares certain beliefs with other Protestant denominations which trace their roots to the Protestant Reformation which was initiated by Martin Luther in 1520. These beliefs are:

The Continual Reformation of the Church
The church is reformed and always must be reforming its life and worship in light of God’s word.

Salvation by Grace through Faith
We are not saved by what we do, but by what God has done in Jesus Christ.

The Authority of the Holy Spirit Speaking through Scripture
The Bible is the supreme authority of a Christian’s life and all other authorities must be judged in light of what scripture would have us be and do.

Priesthood of All Believers
We are ultimately responsible for our life of faith, and we also serve as a “priest” to our neighbors as we pray for and support them in the life of church.

Sanctity of the Common Life
All aspects of life are holy and must be lived for the glory of God.

Sunday Church School

Sunday mornings from September through early May, 10:00-10:50am, interactive and engaging Christian education is offered for children and youth of all ages. All are welcome. Childcare is available beginning at 9:45am for parents who desire to attend adult Christian education.

Children age 3 through grade 5 gather in broadly grade classrooms and engage the Biblical stories through crafts, songs, games, drama, and various other activities. Students also periodically participate in Christ service projects.

Classes meet in the lower lever Christian Education Wing.

Under 18s:
Potomac Presbyterian Church is a vibrant and energetic community. The youth program is a wonderful group of young people. We get together throughout the year for spiritual growth through meals, games, and fellowship.

Our school program year is from September to May. Middle Schoolers meet Sunday morning at 10am (in the MS Room) for Sunday school. High Schoolers meet every second and fourth Sunday after the sermon to react and discuss this weeks lesson.

All events this summer and fall will be posted within our site. We hope you can join us!

Every summer the youth, along with adults in the congregation participate in an intergenerational mission trip. We’ve been to Ohio, Kentucky, New Jersey, and many other places. This year 20 individuals will be traveling to Hampden, WV. You can find more information about our trip and follow along under our Mission Trip tab.

If you have any questions about our programs and are interested in getting involved please contact Emily Powers, Director of Youth Ministries, by email, emily.powers@potomacpresbyterian.org, or phone, 301-299-6007.
