Who we are
Welcome to the Parish of St William of York, Morley
The parish today combines the former parishes of St Francis, Morley and St Brigid, Churwell.
A church was built at Churwell in 1929 and the area became a separate parish in 1954. The church closed in 2010 with the reorganisation of parishes in Leeds.
A Mass centre was first established in Morley in 1889, served from St Mary’s, Batley.
The parish came into being in 1898 and the present Church of St Francis of Assisi opened in 1905, designed by Edward Simpson of Bradford.

The Church is committed to helping us and asks that we help each other during this time. The statement from Cardinal Nichols and Archbishop McMahon asks that we join a national shared moment of prayer each day at 6pm and observe the Vigil of Christ the King (21 November) as a day of prayer for the ending of this pandemic.
Our Parish Church of St Francis of Assisi will be open for Private Prayeras follows:
•Sunday:9.30 –11.30am
•Tuesday: 10.00 –11.00 am
NB. Please come only at the start times, ie not earlier, so the stewards can prepare the church.
You must follow the instructions of the stewards at all times. If you are willing to volunteer as a steward, please contact Canon Galvin providing your contact details.
