Who we are
Our Mission Statement:
Our mission is to "Seek the Unchurched, Nurture Disciples, and Transform the World."
Our Values
Biblically Relevant
We believe the Bible is just as relevant to our culture and context as it was to the original audience. The Bible shapes us as a faith community, as well as individual disciples. We believe that the Bible contains all things necessary for salvation, and we value strong, Biblical preaching that is applicable to daily life.
Welcoming
All are welcome at Scioto Ridge. We value a community that embraces diversity and sees differences as a strength, rather than a weakness. Our unity is in our devotion to Jesus Christ. No matter one’s past or present state, we believe God loves us as we are, yet refuses to leave us as we are. Through authenticity and integrity, we seek to be honest about our own brokenness and reliance on God’s grace.
Relationships
We are made in the image of a relational God. The Trinity shapes our understanding of community. We are meant to share life with each other. Our favorite phrase is “It’s all about relationships!” because we believe it’s true. Relationships are built over time and with intentional effort. In an increasingly disconnected world, we seek to live out our faith in community. We seek to be a church that provides endless opportunities for people to share life with each other. Our commitment to relationships shapes our understanding of discipleship. We believe one of the best ways to grow closer to God is to grow closer to one another.
Discipleship
Noting our commitment to being a congregation where everyone belongs, we know that God loves us as we are, but refuses to leave us as we are. We experience God’s transformational grace by continuing to grow in His likeness. We believe the ultimate purpose of life is to be more like Jesus. This happens by intentionally participating in discipleship opportunities. Discipleship is experienced through many practices including worship attendance, small groups, generous living and giving, missional practice, and personal devotions, prayer and study.
Missional
We believe that faith is not meant to be lived and experienced in isolation, rather it is to be expressed through real, tangible work in the world. Jesus calls us to be salt and light in the world. We value being a church that sends our people out into the world to transform it and make it look a little more like God’s kingdom.
Families
We value the building and supporting of healthy family relationships. Whether single or married, widowed or divorced, starting a family or empty nesters, we seek to understand our spiritual roles in all our relationships.
Aspirational Value:
Ethnic Diversity
We believe that when Jesus says to go and make disciples of all people, he means it. Surrounding Scioto Ridge is an increasingly diverse community. It is our desire is to be a church that represents the ethnic diversity of God’s Kingdom. We are seeking ways to intentionally be a church for all people. We are not where we should be, but we are working on increasing our diversity.
