Who we are
We are a community of believers saved by Jesus, proclaiming God’s glory, empowered by the Holy Spirit, working to make disciples.
South Blendon organized as a local congregation in 1883 and has been blessed to have an active ministry presence in Hudsonville for more than 130 years. We are affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, an historic denomination in the Reformed tradition of Protestant Christianity. The RCA, founded in 1628 in modern day New York City, is the oldest Protestant denomination in the United States, and is characterized by deep roots in historic Christian faith and an ongoing commitment to the mission of Christ in the world. We pray that God will continue to bless us and use us as a light to our community.
We Believe
South Blendon Reformed Church wholeheartedly embraces the good news of historic Christian faith: that in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, God has acted to redeem and renew all things he has created through the power of his Holy Spirit.
In the Reformed tradition, the Bible (the Holy Scriptures, the Word of God) is the final authority for life and faith.
We believe in the Triune God—that God is three in one: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe that we are saved by grace alone through faith, not by what we think or do to earn God’s favor. Our good works don’t earn salvation, but they are evidence of the fruit of the Spirit within us.
We are creedal, expressing our unity with the historic Christian faith in three ancient creeds:
The Apostles’ Creed
The Nicene Creed
The Athanasian Creed
We are confessional, embracing the Reformed tradition of Christian faith using three statements that guide our understanding of faith and shape its practice:
The Heidelberg Catechism
The Belgic Confession
The Canons of Dort
We are sacramental, affirming two sacraments—baptism and the Lord’s Supper (also known as communion or the eucharist)—as visible signs of God’s grace working in us and in the world. Both sacraments were first established and commanded by Jesus Christ in Scripture.
We are “reformed and always reforming,” earnestly seeking to know Christ and to follow Christ’s Spirit faithfully in a complex and changing world.

Dress code:
We encourage you to come as you are and be yourself. After all, we want you to be more focused on who you are worshipping than what you are wearing. We have people who wear jeans and a t-shirt and others who wear a shirt and tie. In the summertime, it’s not uncommon to see people wearing sandals or shorts. Most people dress casual though a few still prefer to put on their “Sunday best,” and that’s fine too! We think you’ll fit in no matter how you dress
Children and Youth Activities

Sunday School meets from 11:15 am – 12:15 pm mid-September thru May. Students 3 years old thru 6th grade have an age-appropriate time of fellowship and learning God’s Word. Our youngest class uses The Story for Little Ones curriculum, a one-year overview of the Bible that focuses on the Bible as one big story of God’s redemptive plan. The older classes are using The Gospel Project for Kids curriculum. This is a four-year chronological look at the Bible as, not individual and unrelated stories, but one Big story of God’s plan of redemption.
Classroom opportunities are offered based on a child’s age:
3-year-olds through Kindergarten
1st/2nd grade
3rd/4th grade
5th/6th grade
Junior high and high school students have a large group Sunday School led by our Director of Youth Ministry.
