Who we are

At St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, we believe in new beginnings and invite you to find your own "new beginning" with us. As witnessed in our own rebirth story, St. Anne’s is a Parable of New Life. St. Anne’s, founded in 1874, was literally cut in half in 1949 when it moved from the countryside in Prince Edward County, 25 miles away, and reassembled here in Appomattox.

So, we know what it is like to be broken, and we know what it is like to be put back together again. We are human beings. We are not perfect. But God’s love, through Jesus Christ, is. So, no matter who you are, or where you come from, no matter how broken, or how put together you are, you can find a home at St. Anne’s. Here your stories, experiences, questions, and doubts will be honored, and you will be cherished as a fellow traveler along the pilgrim journey of faith. Let us experience the joys of new life together.

St. Anne's Episcopal Church Women

St. Anne's Episcopal Church Women (ECW) are involved in various projects throughout the year. Monetary donations are made to Patrick Henry's Boys' Home, Jackson Field Home, Madeline's House, another women's shelter in Lynchburg, Good Samaritan Clothing Exchange, our Food Pantry, and the Jesus Center Afterschool Program. These donations are funded by our Fall Chili Sale and our Chocolate, Chocolate event just before Valentine's Day.

St. Anne's Saints

St. Anne's Saints, our Relay for Life team, raises money for the American Cancer Society through craft shows, plant sales, seasonally decorated candy bars, the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, donations from church members and participation in county-wide fund raisers.

St. Anne's Food Pantry

This outreach Originally started in 1997, as a pay-for-package non-profit agency (SHARE) out of the New River Valley. The agency disbanded in 2010 and St. Anne's Episcopal took up the challenge and continued as the Food Pantry. With financial assistance from Our Lady of Peace, Court House Presbyterian, St. Anne's ECW, St. Anne's Episcopal Church and many generous individuals and groups, we are able to assist between 50 to 90 families depending on the time of the year. Food is both purchased and donated, being distributed on the fourth Saturday of the month unless there is a holiday and then it is distributed on the third Saturday. Thank you for your support as we continue in His Name.

St. Anne's Episcopal Church History

When St. Anne’s Church was founded in 1874, it originally stood in an area known as Five Forks in Prince Edward County. After a few years, regular worship services declined. The church was declared property of the Diocese of Southern Virginia and offered to a group of Episcopalians that had gathered in Appomattox. The building was dismantled and reconstructed in 1949 on its current site at 415 Oakleigh Avenue, Appomattox, Virginia.

The Rt. Rev. George P. Gunn, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia, reconsecrated the church on April 28, 1950. Since then, St. Anne’s has been an active presence in the Appomattox community. Currently, St. Anne’s is known for hosting and operating a local food pantry, for founding the Good Samaritan Clothing Exchange, and for many other local, national and international outreach projects. A warm community of people from many different backgrounds, the people of St. Anne’s invite you to make St. Anne’s your church home.
