Who we are
Welcome to Cockington Parish Churches - the Church of England Parish of Cockington with Chelston, located in beautiful Torquay. We aim to be a church without walls, but also have three church buildings - St George & St Mary, Cockington; St Matthew's, Chelston; and St Peter's Church Centre, Chelston. The parish includes beaches, a country park, a local shopping centre and, most importantly, lots of houses. One of our churches is 950 years old this year - a chance to celebrate - yet we are not stuck in the past. We focus on community and long to engage more with all our local residents.
Covid-19 (Coronavirus) update 4th September 2020: During the Pandemic to date we have maintained a presence within the worshipping community through a Pastoral Contact Team making sure all physical and spiritual needs have been met as we have been made aware of them.
Worship has been continued, whilst our buildings were close for worship, via online 'Communion Together at Home, every Sunday at 11am and the Daily Offices (Morning and Evening Prayer) weekdays at 8am and 5.30pm.
From Sunday 6th September 2020 we re-launch worship in church itself at St. Matthew's every Sunday at 10am, and continue our 11am online service via Facebook and You Tube as well. See our online links in the services menu or look for Cockington Parish Churches on Facebook and You Tube
Safeguarding: The parish of Cockington: St George & St Mary is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Exeter’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
