Who we are

“To Know Christ and to Make Him Known”

St. James’ is a proudly Presbyterian congregation since 1868.

We seek to serve our community and be a strong Christian presence in our community.

Statement from the Kirk Session for June 16, 2020

On June 15, the Kirk Session of St. James’ Presbyterian Church met and considered the current situation. After careful and prayerful consideration, it was decided that the St. James’ building at 19 Main Street North will remain closed for the time being. The safety and well being of our whole community is vitally important to us and we believe that at this time, we can best protect each other and our community by not gathering together. This does not mean that there is no ministry happening here. Rev. Joanne is happy to visit you for a socially distanced visit, and/or short worship service. Please call her if you would like this. She will continue to produce the YouTube videos for each Sunday and will try to stay in touch. Contact her with your prayer concerns. Also, please feel free to contact any of the Board members or elders if you would like information about how to make your donations for the continuance of St. James’, or just to talk. We encourage you all to pick up the phone for a conversation and to stay in touch with each other. We will let you know immediately when any of this changes.

During the current crisis, all activities, including worship and all gatherings, are suspended. However, during the Covid-19 crisis, our building may be closed, but our heart for serving, worshipping, praising our Saviour, and coming before our Lord in prayer is not. Our ministry is not found in our building but in our people. If you are need of ministry, please contact our minister, Rev. Joanne MacOdrum.

For a number of years, St. James’ has counted on your support at our dinners and lunches for our financial health. We are currently unable to hold these events. If you are able to make a donation, and mark your envelope “Lunch”, we would be very grateful.

Please join us in prayer. Please read the prayers posted in the “St. James’ at Prayer” section of this website.

Although we may not gather together to worship, you are welcome to use the benches in the church yard for a time of private worship and praise. Be in God’s creation, and know that God made this for our happiness.

We are so grateful to those people who have continued to support St. James’ financially during the pandemic. Unfortunately, the expenses of ministry continue in this crisis. If you are able to help us financially at this time, please use the information in the “Contacts” section of this website.

For a Sunday meditation, please go to our minister’s YouTube channel: search under “Joanne MacOdrum”.

Know that you are being prayed for and find peace.

Romans 8:38-39:

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Matthew 16:17-19:

“And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.'”
For those who would like to contribute to Contact House during these difficult times, the lobby at Kimball Hall will be open Monday, Wednesday and Fridays to drop off donations.

St. James Presbyterian Church Forest Service Times

Worship takes place every Sunday morning at 10:30 am. We are a traditional Reformed and Presbyterian congregation, valuing excellence in preaching and in music.

On the fourth Sunday of every month, we join with the residents and staff of North Lambton Lodge in worship at 9:30 am. Everyone is welcome to be part of this important ministry.

We look forward to returning these practices. But during this difficult time, even with our buildings closed, you can worship your God. Sing, read scripture, lift his praise on high with your family. Remember that the benches in the church yard were placed there so that you could enjoy time with God in midst of his creation.

Sing and give thanks to the Lord with us!

And To God be all Honour and Glory and Worship and Praise!

Worship does not end when we leave a worship service. Our worship continues through obedient and grateful living. We remember always that our worship must bear fruit in our witness. Having come together to meet God as the children of God, we go out with the mandate to promote God’s rule in the world.

In your journeys to and fro, may God direct you; in your happiness and pleasure, may God bless you; in care, anxiety, or trouble, may God sustain you; in peril and in danger, may God protect you.

The grace of God be with you all, now and always.

St. James Presbyterian Church History

St. James Presbyterian Church, Forest, Ontario was established in 1868. From 1868 until 1884, this church was joined with the church in McKay Settlement, having one Kirk Session for both congregations. In 1884, this link was dissolved and Forest was established as a separate charge by the Sarnia Presbytery of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. The congregation voted to remain Presbyterian at the time of Church Union in 1925.
