St. John's-by-the-Lake History
The history of a church is one of hopes and dreams, challenges and compromises, thoughtfulness and generosity. A church does not exist in isolation but instead is a part of the fabric of the broader landscape. Memories often blur fact with fiction and so, a note written contemporaneously with the event has greater meaning.
In the summer of 1949, the decision to build the church was matched with the donation of the land.
By January, 1956 substantial progress had been made towards a Parish Hall
In 1961 the Sanctuary and Chancel were enlarged and a new Altar, Pulpit, Lectern, Railings, Bishop’s Chair and Clergy/Server’s Chair replaced the modest church furniture that had been installed in 1949
These "new" pews replaced the original painted pews that were installed in St. John’s in 1949
The etching can be found hanging in the Parish Hall on the wall facing the doors to the parking lot. Today it welcomes all who enter.
