St Luke The Evangelist Gillingham Service Times
Sunday
Matins (BCP)
Sunday begins with a said service of 1662 BCP Morning Prayer, as a preparation for the Parish Mass. The service includes the day's Psalm(s), readings, Collects, and the State Prayers, and those who love and appreciate the Book of Common Prayer are especially welcome.
Every Sunday at 9:30 AM for 25 minutes
Parish Mass
Our main act of worship each week, when we gather to hear God's Word proclaimed and to receive Holy Communion. We use the modern-language form of service, with a modicum of traditional Catholic ceremonial to foster a sense of the mystery of the Mass. We sing a mixture of traditional and more modern hymns, together with a simple congregational Mass setting, led by our cantor(s) and volunteer organist. Children and young people are invited to either stay for the whole service, or to go to Sunday School (after the Gospel) if they wish, joining the rest of the assembly for Communion. The Sunday School is held on most Sundays during term-time, according to demand. For young families, there is a carpeted 'safe space' especially for them, with room to move around, soft toys, and plenty of colouring materials.
Every Sunday at 10:30 AM for 1 hour
Holy Baptism
Holy Baptism (or Christening) is carried out by arrangement with Father Paul, usually at 12 noon on Sundays (or, if preferred, during the 1030am Parish Mass). Please come along to a Sunday service, visit the Church on any Saturday morning, or phone Father Paul on 07876 594207. We welcome all applications/enquiries for Baptism, whether infant, child or adult.
Sunday at 12:00 PM for ½ hour
Monday
Morning Prayer
A short said service to begin the day, using a contemporary version of the Daily Office - an opportunity to pray for national, local or personal concerns, to ask questions about the Christian faith, and to enjoy coffee and chat afterwards in a local café.
