Who we are
The parish of St. Matthew’s in St. Albert is located in an established residential area. St. Matthew's was first established in 1961 as a mission of the Church of the Good Shepherd in North Edmonton, until it became established at its current location on Larose Drive. This parish held services in a variety of locations ranging from its first service on Christmas Eve 1961 at the Vital Grandin School, until it was able to secure a regular worship place in the Chapel at St. Joseph's Seminary (Newman College). It wasn't until 1985, again on Christmas Eve, that the Anglican community of St. Matthew's held its inaugural service in its own building.
St. Matthew's is a warm, homey church, recently renovated to increase program space and offices. It can comfortably hold approximately 150 souls. Our congregation is a cross section of the community of St. Albert as well as Edmonton and Morinville, with many young families forming a pleasant blending with our more senior congregational members.
Many new families make St. Albert their home each year and St. Matthew's current Rector, The Venerable Lee Bezanson with over 20 years of service as a military Chaplain, is anxious for our Church to reach out to the numerous military families that call St. Albert their home.
St Matthew's offers a wide variety of pastoral services from Sunday worship, a variety of children's programs, to special services such as Baptisms, Confirmations and Weddings. In addition, we also are involved in outreach initiatives which support a wide variety of activities for the good of one and all in St. Albert.
We like to think of ourselves as people who really like and respect each other, and enjoy being in each others presence.
Why don't YOU come out and see for yourself? We'd be delighted to get to know you!
