Who we are

St Matthias is an adult lifestyle congregation that is open to anyone. We have been told by new members that they encountered a warm congregation, they felt welcome, and decided to stay. We endeavor to involve new members as much as they are willing and able to do so. Recent new members have taken part in the Flea Markets, held monthly from May to September. They have been hosts for the Thursday “Coffee at St Matt’s”, joined the choir, and are on teams for the Sunday Morning Coffee Hour. With the closure of Anglican churches in the area, we have become a loving refuge for some of their parishioners. They bring ideas and enthusiasm to our parish family..

Our worship style is relatively informal, celebrating the Eucharist (Holy Communion) Sunday by Sunday. We sing hymns traditional and more modern – written in the last 50 years. A “Focus Hymn”, usually pertaining to the season of the Church year, is sung each week, for several weeks whereby we learn this new music.

We like to think we have the best Coffee Hour in Etobicoke featuring crackers and cheese, and sweets of all kinds. Some Sundays instead of Coffee Hour we have a lunch: sometimes sandwiches, sometimes soup, sometimes Potluck and we are introducing a full dinner. For anyone who lives alone or wants to meet new friends this is an opportunity to enjoy a meal with others.

St Matthias has a variety of programmes all of which take place during the day: Bible Study, Book Club, and Tuesdays at St Matt’s. Everyone is invited to drop by and visit with the priest or to make an appointment for a more serious discussion.

We are fortunate to have a visible location on a busy street and we recently installed a new sign to let everyone know that St Matthias is more than Sunday worship. A number of years ago forward looking leaders had an elevator installed and so even though there are 3 levels in the building all three are accessible to those with mobility challenges.
