Who we are
St Matthias is an Anglican Church, with many of us coming from diverse backgrounds.
We are all drawn to this place by the heart felt welcome and a sense of God’s life changing presence. It is a place of safety, where we can get to know each other and God deeply, and where we are known by each other and by God.
An ancient man called Ezekiel, once had a vision of water, life giving water flowing out to the world.
'Where the river flows everything will live'. We embrace this vision through three words: Source, Stream, Sea.
Source
We want to do all we can to come to, and introduce others to the one who is the source of living water, Jesus Christ. He said if anyone is thirsty let them come to me and drink – in busy and pressurised Auckland many have a deep thirst.
Stream
This describes a dynamic flowing life where there is nourishment and healing. Ezekiel says that trees grow by the river whose fruit is for food and whose leaves for healing. We invite our community to become part of the healing and renewal of Panmure and Auckland and all who live here or who pass through.
Sea
'Where the river flows everything will live' – this verse speaks of the sea, the world, that the river reaches and transforms. We are praying that our eyes may see the transformation of Auckland. May the reputation of Panmure be different, a place where God lives by his Spirit, a place of prayer, a place of strong churches, a place where children are loved and looked after. A place where people are restored, reconciled and renewed.

I was born and raised in Taranaki and armed with youthful energy, I set out to work as a relief/aid worker in far-off, war-torn places.
After many years in the UK, I returned to NZ with my wife Thaya and my 3 children to settle into life in Auckland and in 2015 we were called to join the community here in Panmure.
Through our time here, we have grown with our community and we are excited to see God’s work in and amongst us.
We look forward to you joining us and walking together with you on life’s journey.

Our 8am worship is a traditional service that combines traditional elements based on the Aotearoa New Zealand Anglican Prayer book.
This service is comtemplative and reflective. It is a good place to recalibrate our internal compass towards God.
Sunday 10am
Our 10am service is a place where there is a real sense of God’s presence.
This service combines worship, teaching, communion and ministry that includes a childrens and youth groups for 0-18 year olds.
Wednesday Rhythm of Prayer

Need time out, need some space to yourself, come and receive Communion.
Allow God to dwell and speak into that space.

St Matthias History
Our story is a journey full of discovery, healing and restoration.
It all began in July 1820, with Samuel Marsden first visiting Makoia Pa (Current site of St Matthias church).
In his journals he wrote, “It is a very populous settlement, and contains the finest race of people I had seen in New Zealand.
It was on his visit to Mokoia Pa on the 3rd November, 1820, that Marsden wrote “in the evening we landed, to great joy of the inhabitants. There were also several chefs from distant parts visiting.
After singing a hymn and offering up our united addresses to the Father of mercies, we retired to rest” (probably the first Church service held in the Tamaki district.)
Just a year later the Mokoia area was quite uninhabited.
That fearful warrior Hongi Heke, had swept down from the north with his tribesman armed with muskets and guns and had completely wiped out the Makoia settlement. From this point the settlement slowly grew, the acceptance and friendship with the missionaries continued, they received their teaching, and the promised gift of the Holy Spirit.
St Matthias Anglican Church in Panmure was planted.
Now in 2016 we are entering a new period of growth and community, where God is connecting families, friends and cultures.
We are so excited at what God is doing and how the prayers of the saints before us are being answered.
Come and join us as we encounter God in us, through us and beyond us.
