Who we are
Sharing Christ's Love in this Community
We are very much based in our communities here on Bellfields, Slyfield and Jacobs Well and are also aware that this community is wherever we find ourselves at work or out with friends or with family at home. We are people who have a hope - a hope of transformation within ourselves and within the world that God made through his love for us. Hope of restoration and forgiveness in the person of Jesus Christ and power to live life with the help of the Holy Spirit
We express this in different ways as we are committed to ‘sharing Christs love in this community.’
What is a Shared Church?
St Peter's is a Church of England church and a United Reformed Church too. We are one congregation but we come from different denominations. If you decide to become a full member of this church you can choose to join the Anglican (C of E) electoral roll or the Free church roll which includes Baptist, Pentecostal and URC denominations.
Originally there were two churches and two congregations but when the Kaye hall (URC) was closed the congregations moved in together. Today there is no longer a URC minister among us.

St Peter's Shared Church History
St Peter‘s Church was established in 1952 in a Nissen Hut vacated by Canadian troops after the Second World War. Services were held by the of Rector and Curate of St John the Evangelist, Stoke, Guildford for people who were moving into Council (public) housing being built on land purchased from the family of the former Rector of St John the Evangelist Stoke Guildford and those moving into the new housing in the Village of Jacobs Well. In 1957 a Hall was built on a plot of land purchased for the purpose by the Diocese.
In 1967 the present Church was built next to the Hall and was dedicated on St Peter‘s Day 29th June 1968. The Congregational Church had built a Hall (Kaye Hall pictured left) near at hand and while St Peter‘s Church was being built the two congregations worshipped together in the Congregational Church. The two congregations have been united ever since.
In the mid 1970s a Church Sharing Agreement between the United Reformed Church and the Anglican Diocese formalised the joint use of St Peter‘s Church by the combined congregation. Money was raised in various ways. A fete with a Fete Queen was held to collect money. People bought bricks and various other ways were used.
