Who we are
St. Philip is a Reconciling in Christ church which means we have adopted an Affirmation of Welcome to persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
We truly believe that God is welcoming to all people and we try to live that our in every aspect of our ministry.
We truly believe that youth are an integral part of the church and we try to live that out in everything we do.
We truly believe that we are called to serve the world in any way we can and we are proud of the social footprint we have in the community.
Because of these beliefs, we believe we are going in the right direction to fulfill our mission of Building an inclusive world by sharing God's love, knowing Jesus and serving the world.
As Lutherans, we believe that we are saved by God's Grace through faith that is given to us by the Holy Spirit.
We believe that we are human and that we are no better than any other humans.
We believe that God came to earth as a human to join us in our humanity.
We believe that we know that life gets messy. But we know that God comes to us in our messiness. God embraces our messiness.
We believe that we do not have to have everything figured out.
We believe that because of Jesus, anything is possible.
We believe that because of Jesus and his Resurrection, we can change the world.
We believe that God loves all people.
We believe that God would not reject anyone because of who they are.

Leader Bio:
Pastor Branden, a Detroit Native and Wayne State Grad, comes to us from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.
Prior to being at St. Philip, Pastor Branden spent time during seminary working with an inner city Church in Columbus, Ohio and worked at Stony Lake Lutheran Camp during college.
“My faith has been shaped most at Stony Lake, a Christian summer camp run through Living Water Ministries,” Hunt said. “During my seven summers at Stony Lake Camp, I served as a counselor, program director, and co-camp director. Each summer helped my faith to grow by seeing young people learn about God. Seeing young people embrace the message of Christ at camp constantly reminds me of God’s hands at work.”
Pastor believes a church should be focused on the youth as well as being an inclusive place for all people.
'St. Philip is a wonderful place, and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to be a leader here.
