Thank you for your interest in SPUMC of Garland! We want you to feel welcome and at home as soon as you walk through our doors.
Our emphasis at SPUMC is to develop a closer relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through worship, bible study and service to others.
Our Worship service is each Sunday morning at 10:30am. The music is blend of hymns and contemporary praise and worship songs and the sermon is inspired by God’s Word and relevant to your daily journey in life.

Pastor Rene’ was born in Dallas and has lived primarily in the Dallas-Fort Worth area all of his life. Following the steps of his grandfather, who was a United Methodist minister in the North Texas Conference, Lawson entered the ministry while in college. Pastor Rene’ holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, a master’s degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and a doctor of ministry degree from Houston Graduate School of Theology in Houston. He also holds a diploma in Joint Professional Military Education from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
Pastor Rene’ recently retired as a Captain in the Navy Reserve. He served in the Chaplain Corps. His work led him to serve Sailors and Marines across the globe, including a combat tour to Fallujah, Al Anbar Province, in Iraq.
Happily married, with four wonderful adult children, Pastor Rene’ has served in a variety of ministry settings throughout his career and is excited to be serving St. Philip’s United Methodist Church.
