Who we are
St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church is a parish in the Diocese of Fort Worth; we serve Catholics in Flower Mound, Lewisville, Highland Village, Lantana, and the surrounding communities. With a community of nearly 4,000 families located in one of the fastest-growing areas of the country, St. Philip's has completed Phase I of a new campus at 5201 Cross Timbers Road, Flower Mound.
Founded in the 1970s in Lewisville, the parish of St. Philip the Apostle built three churches in succession to keep up with the rapid increase in growth in North Texas. By 2013, it became clear that the Lewisville campus would not support further growth, and the decision was made to relocate the parish to 40 acres in Flower Mound. Construction of Phase I (the first half of the church and adjacent support space) was completed in 2022.
Our next step in the development of our campus is to build a parish life center to support our community and religious formation, with a large social hall, classrooms, and meeting space. In a future building phase, we will expand the church to its full length and complete the sanctuary area.

St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church History
In 2022, St. Philip’s celebrated the 50th anniversary of our parish; that is, 50 years since the appointment of our first pastor, Fr. Joseph Scantlin, in 1972. The work of building St. Philip’s began earlier, however, with the first Mass celebrated in Lewisville for 120 local Catholics on November 19, 1967.
It took several years for the small group to realize the dream of a parish in their own community; they met for Sunday Mass in local schools and churches and gathered for annual picnics, all the while shaping the growing community that would become St. Philip’s. But every parish needs a church: a building dedicated to the act of worship, a place where Our Lord may dwell among us the Blessed Sacrament.
The first home of our parish was a pre-fabricated metal building on Jones Street in Lewisville, built in 1971. Parishioners had raised funds for years, even doing some of the construction work themselves, to provide this home.
