Who we are
Mission Statement
Called by Christ, we try to live our faith in a spirit-filled oasis of peace in the middle of the financial district of our city. We welcome all and attempt to provide a refuge from the stress and pressures of the workplace or simply offer to fellow believers a quiet space for prayer and meditation.
In 1977, then Rector of St. Michael’s Cathedral, Most Rev. Pearce Lacey, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus, together with a few devout business people founded St. Stephen’s Chapel.
The first few years we were located at 34 Adelaide St. W. and then moved to our present location.
We celebrated out 25th anniversary on April 30, 2002.
On average St. Stephen’s Chapel serves about 500 faithful every day. From the beginning we were very well aware of the need to stay within a tight time-frame to allow the faithful who attend Mass at least some time to reach the office and have time for a short lunch. For this reason we keep our daily Mass celebrations to about 25 minutes.
Counselling and Spiritual Direction were always integral parts of our ministry at St. Stephen’s Chapel and remain so to this day.
Bible Study, Catechesis, Seminars, and Retreats, enhance the faith-life of the friends of St. Stephen’s.
We thank God for our blessing this ministry and you for your support. Without the dedicated group of volunteers and financial gifts provided to St. Stephen’s by our patrons we would be unable to operate.
