Who we are
Welcome to St.Timothy's Anglican Church.
Founded in 1959, we are part of the Anglican Diocese of Edmonton. We are located in west Edmonton, in the neighbourhood of Laurier Heights. Laurier Heights is a mature residential community of approximately 2600 people, overlooking the North Saskatchewan River Valley.
In addition to weekly Sunday Services and weekday morning prayer, we celebrate additional services during special holy times of Christmas, Easter, and during Lent. Choral services are occasionally held on Sunday evenings.
St. Timothy's is known throughout the diocese of Edmonton for its dedicated choir and strong musical tradition.
The church is home to a thriving population of children under the age of 12 who participate in our weekly Sunday School programming.
We partner with the nearby parish of St. Paul's to support a full-time Youth Ministry leader and regular youth programming.
To meet the needs of families with young children, and others for whom the format is more accessible, St. Timothy's holds Messy Church services on the 3rd Saturday of every month from September to June. Messy Church involves crafts and activities related to the main theme of the week, a teaching time on the main theme with one of the clergy, and a shared meal.
For the past several years, there have been regular clergy-led Wednesday Night Study Groups at the church. Topics discussed and areas explored have included:
introduction to Christianity
spirituality of the psalms
prayer practices
book studies
This small group setting has been very helpful in developing community, increasing theological understanding, and deepening spirituality.
Members of St. Timothy's are engaged in a number of outreach ministries. This includes ministry to the economically disadvantaged and homeless through the local Christian Care Centre; support for Habitat for Humanity; and sponsoring meals at the Bissell Centre, an inner city pastoral ministry. Every year the church also sponsors, prepares and delivers Christmas hampers to families in need through the Edmonton Christmas Bureau.
In the past several years St. Timothy's has become involved in supporting Red Earth, a First Nations parish in Northern Saskatchewan. Our involvement has included regular prayer, leading VBS on the reserve, financial support for its unpaid clergy, and preparing dozens of Christmas packages for the community's children.
The church provides financial assistance to HUSA, a registered orphanage and community-based organization that offers opportunities and support for orphans and vulnerable children in Kimamba, Tanzania. Parishioners devote time and resources to a variety of other outreach opportunities as well, including working with young offenders.
St. Timothy's, along with the parish of Christ Church, was a founding member of the Canterbury Foundation, a private, not-for-profit charitable organization that operates three seniors' living options located a few blocks from St Timothy's Church.
Whether you're looking for a place for some quiet prayer and contemplation, some Christian fellowship or a spiritual home, please drop in an join us.
