Who we are

The Bridge Southwest Community Center has ministries that are designed to aid, encourage and equip every member of the family. Whether you are single, married, young or old, we have a ministry designed just for you.

The Ministry embraces the fact that a couple can love God, and still fail at the marital relationship due to the lack of biblical knowledge. Therefore, the focus of the ministry is to provide this knowledge, development skills in handling the divine relationship of marriage. It is NOT counseling; a couples’ personal business is of not discussed, and inquiries are not made into one’s personal relationship.

Therefore, participants who attend aren’t asked to say anything and questions aren’t directed to any particular individual. This ministry is open to members and non-members. Attendees may come as couple, or individually, due to the work schedule or activity of the other partner.A prepared lesson concerning some aspect of marital communication, finance, child rearing, dealing with in-laws, division of household responsibilities and/or the sexual relationship and responsibilities, is presented during each meeting.

We never meet just to talk; however, the ministry will deviate from the prepared lesson if a couple request insight concerning a particular issue. The strength of the Marriage Enrichment Ministry is that it sheds light on what God would have us to do, and shows us “How” to accomplish a fulfilling and healthy marriage.

The Bridge / Southwest Community Baptist Church History

THE HISTORY OF THE BRIDGE

SOUTHWEST COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN CENTER

The Bridge Phase 1

The vision of Southwest Community Christian Center, “The Bridge” was given to Pastor Gregg John Patrick, while sitting with a friend at a restaurant across the street from the Center. While glancing out of the window, the Pastor remarked to a friend, “Doesn’t that shopping center look like a Church? I seem to see a cross in the middle of that copper dome.”

When his friend remarked negatively, our Pastor put the vision out of his mind and continued duties as Assistant Pastor at McGee Chapel and as a nationwide evangelist for two more years. During this period, it became very obvious to Pastor Patrick, due to growth of the community, that the vision was indeed and inspiration from God, and should be enacted upon with dispatch; this was in August of 1990.

The Bridge Phase 2

The Pastor along with his family, Lela Bailey, the Wilson family, the Sargent family, and a host of friends and well wishers, met at the Center for the first meeting in the paper and print shop. Our first member of the church, Lela Bailey, passed into glory at exactly 11:00 a.m. on the Sunday of the first official morning service (January 27, 1991). On April 7, 1991, during a grand dedication and installation ceremony, we entered the new edifice (now the chapel).

The membership has grown from its’ humble beginnings to now thousands of members, with three Assistant Pastors, twenty Associate Ministers, fourteen Deacons and 15 Deacon’s in training. The Bridge was also blessed to realize the purchase of our new Center in just one year after the initial lease. Additionally, in 1992, we purchased three acres adjacent to our property, for a future sanctuary to seat 1200.

Five more non-profit community services have been added to the Center. The first is Southwest Community Christian Academy (SWCCA), which opened in September of 1991. Beginning with only 19 students and 3 teachers, it has grown to its’ present enrollment of more than 200 students, and a staff of over 40.

The Bridge Phase 3

Also opening in 1993-94, was The Windows From Heaven Resale Shop, and The Southwest Health Club. Other non-profit community services continue to be developed.

In February 1993, we began an early morning service to meet the increasing need of our church membership. As a result, our early morning choir was formed in 1994, under the direction of Sis. Ann Williams who also began our evening choir in 1998.

On August 11, 1996, we witnessed the grand opening and dedication ceremonies of our new edifice; a true blessing from God. The church continues to grow, and needs your help to continue that same growth and commitment.

In August of 1997, we completed and opened our educational wing, named the “King Wing,” after Dea. James King, a founding member, whom the Lord called home, in that same year. We also opened our gymnasium, which is named “Bailey Hall,” after the late Lela Bailey, our first member. The chapel is named after a wonderful servant and former Director of our Ushers Ministry, the late Rhonda Cummings.

The Bridge Phase 4

In the year 2000, we had our first “Take It To The Bridge” concert at the Astrodome, which was a blessing for thousands; five more TITTB concerts followed. In 2004, Pastor Patrick promoted the nationwide Stellar Awards Gospel Star Search, which was won by (now) nationally renowned gospel artist Micah Stampley.

Also in November of 2006, the Church Choir recorded its first gospel album with a host of gospel friends contributing their voices to the project. The CD/DVD was released in June 2008 and received immediate acclaim throughout the Gospel Music Industry. Pastor Patrick’s gospel CD “Crossover,” debuted at #9 on the Billboard Charts and received a Stellar Award Nomination for best gospel performance; losing to his friend Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Choir.

In 2011, the church completed renovation of its’ current sanctuary, changing the colors from burgundy and pink, to royal and baby blue; installing new pews, new artist murals and a new electronic sign and waterfall on the front island.

A frequent guest host on TBN’s “Praise The Lord” television broadcast, Pastor Patrick has also received numerous local, state, and national awards and honorary degrees. He earned his Doctorate of Education from Payne Springs University in November, 2013. Pastor Patrick has four children; Patience, Kandice, Kristopher and Paige. He also has six grandchildren, Aliyah, Nicholi, Daija, Ryan, Elijah and Laila.
