Unity of Blue Water History

In January 1989, one hundred years after the birth of the Unity movement, a local group gathered at The Honeycomb health store in Port Huron and started having classes. The original local members were Dawn and Rob Williams, Joyce Gusten, Carol Schoenherr, Bob and Helen Venzia, Eunice Hess, Kathy Thomson, and Peg Lovett.

As the group grew, it moved to having study groups and services at the Disabled American Veterans building on Military Street, Port Huron in July, 1989; to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Gratiot Avenue, Port Huron in January 1990; and to the Harrington Hotel in June 1995. In February 1996, the local Unity group reached the Association of Unity Churches’ status of “Pioneer Church” and moved to the Dungan Clinic building on 10th Avenue, Port Huron.

In July 1998, Unity of Blue Water reached its goal of full church status and purchased its building at 431 17th Street in Port Huron in December 1998.

Unity’s inclusive and open-minded community encourages personal initiative and growth, and provides a positive path for spiritual living.

Unity of Blue Water currently offers weekly Sunday services and a weekly Children’s Program – Youth in Unity, as well as special classes, workshops, prayer circles and other inspirational and educational activities throughout the year. All are open to the public.
