Who we are
The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish is the official name of Saint Mary's Church.
We are a Roman Catholic Parish of the Diocese of Peterborough.
Our primary purpose is by way of the Sacraments of the Church, to bring Jesus Christ to you and you to Him. We also seek to make this more so possible by the liturgy, as well as all our other activities and endeavours.

Saint Vincent de Paul Society
The Saint Vincent the Paul Society is a group of volunteers who assist individuals and families who find themselves suffering from temporary difficulties or setbacks.
For any contributions to their work or for assistance, please contact a member of the Society by dialing 705 875 6711
Members of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society are usually available to assist you in person at Saint Mary's Church Vestry every first and third Monday of the month,
from 1 PM through 3 PM.

HISTORY
St. Mary's church was built in 1900. The plans for the church were drawn up by Thomas Hanley of Bellville. The primary building material was lime stone from Breckin. The church was dedicated by Bishop McEvay form the Diocese of London in 1901.
RECENT ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR
The bell tower has been leaking for at least 60 years as has been attested to by elderly parishioners who, as children, were required to put buckets under the leaks in the northwest corner of the nave adjacent to the bell tower. There were several attempts to address the problems, none of them successful. Money was definitely wasted.
In April, 2005, Geo-Logic was hired to review the situation of the bell tower and building. The review was alarming! It observes that the EPDM (rubber) membrane was incorrectly installed 10 years previously and was the major cause of "water migration between interior stone wall and exterior stonework". It also mentions the "many attempts to patch transition flashing and re-point the stone over the years. The stonework along the east face has suffered freeze thaw damage and will continue to do so unless the water migration is stopped. There were large mortar and stone cracks at the north east corner of bell tower above sloped roof line. These cracks show structural movement and could be a safety risk of having stone falling to ground."
In the fall of 2010, Tom Plue, Architect Peter Stokes, and the staff of Sky-High Restoration made another extensive survey of the damage to the bell tower and the building. A detailed report dated Feb. 23, 2011 was accepted by the Diocesan Property Committee and approved by the Diocesan Finance Committee (July 12, 2011) allowing us to begin the restoration of the bell tower and church. The first repairs were to "stop the water" from leaking into the church. The initial amount that the Diocesan Finance Committee approved was for $141,000, approximately one quarter of the total estimate for repairs. This first Sky-High report confirms the report of Geo-Logic in great detail.
