The Virgin and Child with Ste Anne
Ste Anne is the grandmother of Jesus and the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Stories of Ste Anne and her husband Joachim are found in the early writings of Christianity.
Ste Anne is patroness of unmarried women, housewives, women in labor or who want to be pregnant, grandmothers, educators and teachers. Thousands of miraculous cures have been attributed to her intercession, and devotion to Ste Anne has been widespread throughout the world.
Ste Anne is often portrayed with the child Mary at her side holding a book and teaching her to read. Pope Pius IX declared her as the Patroness of Canada back in 1876. Ste. Anne’s annual Feast Day is celebrated on the 26th of July, so this is naturally the final day of each year’s Lac Ste Anne pilgrimage.
